Why FIFA should reconsider FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa

Permalink 10:20:42 pm, Categories: Current Events and News, 1956 words

I sat and thought for a long time about writing this post. I mostly did not want to write it because of the little bit of patriotic pride I still have for my country South Africa. However, lately things are getting way out of hand and I no longer see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Every day over 50 people are murdered (1) (this does not include the hundreds of daily rapes, armed robberies and attempted murders) in South Africa. Corruption is more rampant now then it has ever been (even worse then under the Apartheid government), and crime is an every day part of the average South Africans life. Police are letting the drug lords and syndicates here in South Africa go uncontested, and are so criminally corrupt that normal South Africans know they can no longer rely on the SAPS (2) Any attempt to get crime statistics out of the police are next to impossible. The ones the SAPS do publicly release (and expect the rest of you to believe) are an EXTREME misrepresentation as to what is actually happening on the ground and are purely for political purposes, so that you will think everything is okay in South Africa.(1)

The ruling African National Congress is abusing its status as the leading political party and enriching a few of its senior members at the exploitation of the rest of South Africa. Recent reports by our national newspapers show the ANC getting into bed with Viktor Vekselberg from Russia, who is currently under investigation for racketeering and asset theft (3).

The ANC gets most of its money from big business trying to exploit our fledgling democracy, as a majority of its supporter base is to poor to be able to fund its political agenda. The large corporation donations into the ANC`s coffers has enabled it to fund its own cartels (now you see why the ANC and Russian representatives get along so well)(4)

An excellent example of a corporation out of control thanks to a few well oiled palms is the company Telkom (PTY) LTD. Up until very recently it was the only company allowed to lay land lines anywhere in South Africa, and this led South Africa to have the highest call rates in the world (5). South Africa the "power house" of Africa now even lags behind both Ethiopia and Rwanda in providing telecommunications to its citizens(6). Tariffs are targeted to be the most expensive for the poor, and the main cellular providers in South Africa work together as a cartel to make sure they go unopposed.

One would think our Minister of Communications, Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri (a school teacher) would get axed and fired for such a poor performance. She instead got a raise. It makes a lot more sense when you realise that the South African government is the majority shareholder of Telkom, and that ANC officials hold most of the rest of the majority of the shares. The ANC seems to have little interest in really empowering and helping the poverty struck members of South Africa.

Our ANC Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Essop Pahad is allowed to let his religious views cloud his judgement and is trying his hardest to break ties with Israel. Yet Essop Pahad to this date, has not mentioned one single thing about the gross lack of human rights in both Iran or Syria. His judgements appear to be completely religiously motivated (7). South Africa has a very small Islamic population, so his views do not represent 90% of the average South African's views on the situation.

Racism and backwards policies are once again the order of the day here in South Africa, however, this time its not the white population who are at fault, and a very scary future is expected for South Africa if the comments from the ANC Youth League's leader Fikile Mbalula (who is 40+... Must have failed a lot at school to still be in the Youth League at his age) are anything to go on. At a recent rally Fikile Mbalula said he loves President Robert Mugabe for a job well done (8).

Jacob Zuma who is a strong runner for the next race for president. He is under investigation for strong criminal links, fraud, corruption and rape (9). During the trial he informed the court that he did not rape the victim, but KNOWINGLY had unprotected sex with her even though he knew she was HIV positive. He informed the court that he took "a shower" to avoid AIDS (10). In case you are wondering what happened to him? Well so far (through political manipulation) Jacob Zuma has managed to avoid jail. However, his accomplice Shabir Shaik was found guilty and sent to jail (11)

The ANCYL still strongly supports Jacob Zuma and his drive to be president, and to give you an idea of the mind set of the people who support Zuma, I will quote the following from an article published in a national newspaper in Botswana the Sunday Standard in Gaborone titled "President Zuma will sort out White People"

"He berated white people for complaining about their loss of privilege, affirmative action and crime and said "they should count themselves lucky they were not shot on the day of liberation. Perhaps it's not too late to hang a few whites... just to remind them who is in charge".

The newspaper in Botswana also went on to say,

"He dismissed the corruption charges against Zuma as the result of "some jealous blacks and their white friends".

"The people love Jacob Zuma... but, as part of sorting out ungrateful white people, I want him to embark on a redistribution exercise. I want him to distribute white women among the long-suffering black chaps"
(12)

What I do not understand is how come the International press have not picked up on all this information, and how they can allow the above to be said without any type of response. They were darn quick to condemn white South Africa and its pathetic policies during Apartheid, but seem to be completely blind to the daily slaughter of South Africans today. I guess the race card makes better reading.

If tourists come here to South Africa for FIFA 2010, they can expect extremely bad public medical service. People are dying and left to rot in public hospitals, and have few competent able staff. If you ignore everything else and still come to South Africa for the soccer world cup, I beg of you this. DO NOT use our public health system if you wish to be treated successfully. Rather use one of our over priced private hospitals that all our top ANC officials use (13).

You also do not want to use a facility run by our ANC Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang who completely embarrassed South Africa at the World AIDS Conference, by suggesting garlic and beetroot over antiretrovirals to combat HIV/AIDS (She also did not get fired for her lunatic remarks or poor service delivery) (14).

Do you seriously want this woman in charge of your health in the likely case you become another South African crime statistic?

I would also recommend to the reader of this article who is considering to come to South Africa for the soccer world cup in 2010 NOT to use any type of public transport system. The most common form of public transport in South Africa is the mini bus taxi. Its basically a completely unregulated system that has caused major bloodshed here in South Africa (15), with full on "taxi wars". Most of the vehicles are not roadworthy and I can almost guarantee you that the driver of the taxi does not have a valid drivers licence (16)(17).

Taxi drivers have also said that "blood will flow in the streets" at the FIFA soccer world cup if their demands are not met (18).

Another form of public transportation is the Metrorail. The killing on these trains is increasing every year, and violent crime is to be expected (19). The most recent case that I have read lately is one whereby the South African public had to take Metrorail all the way to the Constitutional Court to get some type of protection while using their services (19).

So lets have a quick look over at the reasons why you should not come to South Africa for the FIFA World Cup 2010 Soccer World Cup.

- Crime (Its completely out of control in South Africa, and you are a soft target)
- Corruption (This is only useful if you decide to bribe a police officer)
- Transport (You really do not want to use any of our public transport systems)
- Health (If you get sick/stabbed/raped in South Africa and can not afford the private system... well it was nice knowing you)

A couple of other things you might want to know. South Africa has some of the highest rape statistics in the world. Add to this some of the highest HIV/AIDS infection statistics in the world and you will soon realise how dangerous its going to be here for you. Been male or a young baby does not protect you from rape. Some of you might remember the poor 9 month old baby that was gang raped by 6 men (20).

Some of you reading this might think I am blowing things out of proportion. Perhaps I am. However what is going on in South Africa I personally have been a victim of. I have been hijacked, victim of an armed robbery and had someone shot next to me. I have seen people beaten to death and watched people die at the end of a gun.

I have had an elderly family member have her head smashed in with a brick so the person could rob her for under $5. If you are thinking that my case is an extreme case you are wrong. I am simply a normal South African who has to deal with all the above on a daily basis.

I have excluded most of the corruption and crime stories in South Africa, and just focused on the few details I could recall offhand while writing this. There's a hellavu lot more crime and corruption happening here, and its a lot more brutal than you think.

If you decide to come to South Africa for the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2010 I wish you the best of luck, and I will remind you that you enter at your own risk.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE?

My name is . I live in a place called MyHome. I love My Home veryv much but I don't like that We have to share Our backyard with our maid (SwartGirl) and gardener (SwartBoy). I don't know why my PA is letting Mr Verwoerd down... (by the way, that's the Apartheid architect)... by letting us share opportunities with SwartGirl and SwartBoys children. They are not like us. Just because we hosted the Rugby and Cricket Word Cup successfully, doesn't mean that BLACK people can do it. Aparently they lack the White skin component in their genetics. I hate the fact that we now have to share public fascilities with them. My cousins in England and Australia tell me that they are living in a 0% crime and corruption land. And I think Germany was also 0% crime free during last year's World Cup. Oh, I think the rest of the WORLD is also crime free. Except MyHome. I hope FIFA spites them and take the 2010 WORLD Cup away. In the name of the Almighty White GOD. AMEN.

PS: The best shot you scaremongers have of a disrupting our 2010 WORLD CUP dream is a Universal prayer. Beyond that, you mortals will not come up with anything that will cause serious concern except in your petty little minds. In the meantime, we are gearing to host a brilliant BLACK 2010 World Cup.

Dear Stone,

Get a life racist. Wtf does this have to with race? Oh wait, you must be black and playing the race card. Gosh... again!?!?! Well stuff you mate. This is not a black/white issue except when made into one by people like you. When I say people like you I include those AWB people, because even though you and them have different color skins.. at heart you are the same. You both want conflict over race.

Some people when they see the light at the end of the tunnel... carry on creating more tunnel.

K. Thnx. Bye.

Wow,

Dear pb member,

You labelling me a racist??? Let's get down to the basics here... "prove to me that whoever sent this post is not "white", and I'll labour to the enrichment of your soul upon my life. If you are not aware (DUH!), the difference between optimism and pessimism regarding 2010 has been "black" and "white".WTF! OK now I know you are going to say that I have a "chip on my shoulder...or maybe two". Why the F do you get so nervous when we state real issues pertinent to racial segregation in the current SA enviroment? Are you BITTER or ANNOYED?

If you want to debate this issue, lets do it. It pissse me off that everytime I pray there's a picture of a white GOD, similar to the one hanged on my church walls. Do I have to apologise for that? Do I have to apologise that you Sunday School teacher taught you that Cain slept whit Monkeys after he was punished by your White God and that is the origin of Black people? Oh OK, let's sweep matters under the carpet. Forget "double standards" (Rugby and Cricket World Cup) and pretend we are living in a world of equal ACCESSIBLE opportunities for all. That will suit you just fine. You continue to keep what you benefitted out of unjust practice and "Life goes on". I need to see you pretensive liberals getting your hands dirty to re-address the situation, even if it means pissing your CEO OUPA off!

I have decided to go through your comment a sentence at a time because you jump all over the place.

If you want to debate this issue, lets do it. It pissse me off that everytime I pray there's a picture of a white GOD, similar to the one hanged on my church walls.

Yes, I see how you can come to ranting on about a non-issue like Gods race in an article to do with crime. My sarcasm aside, what the hell is wrong with you?

To even think God is limited to skin color is ludicrous beyond insanity. God is what you make it to be. If you are in India and want it to be a cow or a rat, its a cow or a rat. If you want God to be male or female, brown or cream, it will be whatever you perceive it to be.

Do I have to apologise for that?

No, its your own opinion on what you perceive to be in inaccurate portrayal of God. I would also concede its an inaccurate image of God.

Do I have to apologise that you Sunday School teacher taught you that Cain slept whit Monkeys after he was punished by your White God and that is the origin of Black people?

Hell no! If you look through some of my other posts you will notice I have made my opinions on fundamentalism very clear. In fact, if you email me all the details about what this bastard Pastor taught you, I would be happy to write about it. You are completely right in believing that is disgusting.

Oh OK, let's sweep matters under the carpet. Forget "double standards" (Rugby and Cricket World Cup)

Or soccer...

and pretend we are living in a world of equal ACCESSIBLE opportunities for all.

We do not live in a world of equal opportunity so I can not relate to to this.

That will suit you just fine.

Of course equal opportunity for all would suite me fine. In fact I would consider it an ideal.

You continue to keep what you benefitted out of unjust practice and "Life goes on".

Bru.... you have no idea of what my family has sacrificed and given up so do not pretend to know my situation. Yes, I will concede our ethnic group benefited due to unjust practice. I have no doubt about it. That said, wtf does this have to do with my post? Oh wait, you are trying to use emotional blackmail on me by playing a passive-aggressive version of the race card. Doesn't work with me mate. I don't see black and white. I see cream, brown and rainbow.

I need to see you pretensive liberals getting your hands dirty to re-address the situation, even if it means pissing your CEO OUPA off!

Again more bull. Golly you really are a melodramatic queen mate. I do... every day. I belong to several education groups and I am doing my best on a ground roots level to make a difference in rural communities. I believe education and communication are two very important pillars our democracy needs in order to survive the ignorance, bigotry and hate of people like you.

I also have a fairly good idea I will hopefully be able to present to the ID shortly for... well, I will write a post about that and see the response.

Now, do you actually have any relevant points to debate with me about crime, or are you going to continue building straw man (http://www.fallacyfiles.org/strawman.html) arguments and falling back onto the Chewbacca defence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chewbacca_Defense).?

In response to your other comment:

Yes, you cant seem to get off the topic.

Ghei

If you are not aware (DUH!), the difference between optimism and pessimism regarding 2010 has been "black" and "white"

Only to the racist freaks.

OK now I know you are going to say that I have a "chip on my shoulder...or maybe two".

At this point I am not sure if you have anything on your shoulders.

Why the F do you get so nervous when we state real issues pertinent to racial segregation in the current SA enviroment?

Issues? What issues? You have not raised any issues other than some drivel about religion, and emotional blackmail.

Are you BITTER or ANNOYED?

Um, no.

Let me break down my comments since you are getting lost, and explain the link from 2010 to crime to racism.

The central issue in my first comment is that "the difference between optimism and pessimism about SA hosting a successful tournament" is "black" and "white".The conclusion from there is, Im not a racist. Im just annoyed by racial arrogance. what racial arrogance you may ask? I will clearify this to you with a question. Were there any campaigns to discourage people to come to SA in 1995 for the Rugby World Cup and in 2003 for the Cricket World Cup? If not, WHY?

My second comment was reffering to your statement that: "Some people when they see the light at the end of the tunnel... carry on creating more tunnel.". I was puting forward to you that this blog entry "Why FIFA should consider taking the World Cup blah blah blah" is doing exactly what you are accusing me of (creating more tunnel when light is coming in 2010).

My third comment challenges you for a debate on whether certain perceptions formulated across our society currently (e.g. crime vs 2010) are partly if not generally informed by racist psychological thinking patterns that were moulded in the past. At this point, I reffered to the psychological impact of being taught that God is white and the teachings that Africans are a product of Cain sleeping with monkeys after being punished by the above-mentioned white God. Let me again clearify this to you with a question. How do you seperate current perceptions from the previous psychological foundations?

The three comments therefore, cover the "perceptions around 2010", the "role of crime as a weapon against 2010" and the role of racism within issues of crime vs 2010". In one of the blogs somewhere on the net, someone like-minded to the poster of this topic said and I qoute "can't FIFA just take it away from them". Let me put a question to you again. Who do you think "them" refers to?

Coming back solely to the topic of crime. I will put it to you that an average brown South African is now generally worried about whether Kaizer Chiefs will qualify for the top 8 spot. Vice versa, an average cream South African is worried about who will come up tops between the Sharks and the Bulls. Yet, according to the opinion formulated in the media, you think the sale of bullet proof vests has just rocketed sky high because everybody needs it. In fact, supermarkets like Pick 'n Pay have now started selling metal detectors so people can check for landmines on their doorsteps. My last question to you Mr Liberal Cream South African, Are we really living in a warzone people like you and the BBC are propagating?

Morning my happy little racial agitator. Okay, firstly, the 2003 Rugby World Cup was held in Australia. So what it has to do with this topic of conversation is beyond me.

And no, only racists have made it black vs white thing... just so readers know where you stand.

As for the Cricket World Cup... one name. Bob Walmer. However that aside, the reason I chose soccer to make my point is, is because the ANC government doesn't care what would happen to Rugby or Cricket, the do care about the soccer. Lets take the Mugabe siffyness we have to put up with on our border. The reason Mbeki gave for wanting to resolve the Mugabe situation, was so that in 2010 the Zimbabwe elections would not interfere with hosting of the world cup. Think he would have done the same for cricket or rugby?

Great! there is an end to crime in site?!!! Woooooooooooohoooooooooooooo! We need to release publications of this most amazing information right away! So tell me oh great one... wheres the end of the crime?

My third comment challenges you for a debate on whether certain perceptions formulated across our society currently (e.g. crime vs 2010) are partly if not generally informed by racist psychological thinking patterns that were moulded in the past. Let me again clearify this to you with a question. How do you seperate current perceptions from the previous psychological foundations?

Dude.... um no. Ive been hijacked (locked in the boot of my car for 11 hours), Ive been in an armed robbery, and a shoot out, so 3 times in my life, I have had it almost end very quickly due to crime. As also stated an elderly female relative of mine had her head smashed in with brick in East London for R10. Should I not have 'psychological impact' due to having a certain ethnic group hold a guns at my head and killing off my family members? Well I don't. I don't go around blaming all the people of that ethnic group for what I have suffered. Why? Because I am bigger than that, and I do not like to fall to cheap stereotypes as quickly as say you like to.

In that last incident I was in. I was walking up a street, and 3 armed robbers burst out of the store in front of me, shooting the security guard in the stomach at the same time. Most of the other people ran away, the first thing I did was use my training in first aid to save the security guard who had been shot and keep him alive until the ambulance arrived. And I did.

So you had a couple of racist comments thrown at you by some inbred redneck somewhere and now have those "two chips" on your shoulders. Dude, I have had to experience way worse from YOUR ethnic group, and guess what.. I still have all my brown friends and I still carry on.

The three comments therefore, cover the ' perceptions around 2010 role of crime as a weapon against 2010 ' and the role of racism within issues of crime vs 2010'

Hold on there Fido, you are going off track again. Firstly your 'role of crime as a weapon against 2010' comment .. is your own opinion. If I had to put it into words I would have said, 'role of 2010 as a weapon against crime'. You see ... completely different perspectives. Then you go back onto your favorite topic ... racism. As I said, you come across as having this weird thing for it.

In one of the blogs somewhere on the net, someone like-minded to the poster of this topic said and I qoute "can't FIFA just take it away from them". Let me put a question to you again. Who do you think "them" refers to?

Opinion and assumption. The hallmarks of a professional agitator. I have no idea to who "them" is as I did not write the blog post you read and I certainly have not read it.

Coming back solely to the topic of crime. I will put it to you that an average brown South African is now generally worried about whether Kaizer Chiefs will qualify for the top 8 spot. Vice versa, an average cream South African is worried about who will come up tops between the Sharks and the Bulls.

To be honest, I could not care about any of the teams or sports you mentioned. I surf. I would also like to point out that you said "about crime" so I was getting excited... and then you missioned off to talk about sport again. Soooo close man.

Yet, according to the opinion formulated in the media, you think the sale of bullet proof vests has just rocketed sky high because everybody needs it.

Okay, now you have completely gone off the rails. My opinion in the media? wtf? Don't know much about bullet proof vests. 54 people get shot in this country daily.. I would imagine there is a demand.

In fact, supermarkets like Pick 'n Pay have now started selling metal detectors so people can check for landmines on their doorsteps.

So?

My last question to you Mr Liberal Cream South African, Are we really living in a warzone people like you and the BBC are propagating?

Okay, Warzone is your word. But has my life been put at risk? and that of my family? Without a doubt. Will I tell people about my real experiences and opinions? You bet I will.
